That little camera allowed Douglas to capture moments that would normally slide into oblivion- the breath between the words of his intimate life. The result is a brilliant and sensual memoir of a free spirited and uninhibited era.

For the first time, Douglas has assembled a collection that celebrates the complete scope of his photography, laid out in a new book called "A Life in Pictures".

This documentary follows him as he selects images for the book, reviews the proofs, and receives the final print, while recalling the most pivotal moments in his career.

Hear stories about working with Hollywood greats and learn the history behind cameras from his extensive collection, including the Kodak Brownie that started it all.


photo l.a. 2014 is just a few short weeks away! photo l.a. 2014 will host it's Annual Opening Night Gala & Benefit on January 16th, honoring celebrity photographer Douglas Kirkland and benefiting local non-profit Inner-City Arts. This year's gala will feature a live DJ set from KCRW's Aaron Byrd, guest speakers, specialty food and cocktails, and a preview of the fair’s largest collection of photo-based art to date. Since 1960, Kirkland has photographed over 2,000 assignments and more than 600 major celebrities, from Marilyn Monroe to Angelina Jolie. He has also released a multitude of best selling books and has had his photography exhibited in major museums and galleries throughout the world.
